What Got Shipped Today - 20/10/26 - KAI reads your head contract, variations linked both sides, and inbox drawings straight to the register
Published: 20 October 2026 Features KAI reads your client's contract and fills in the head contract for you "As a contract administrator, I want to upload the contract my client sent me and have the head contract set up from it, so I'm not re-keying values by hand." Before: Setting up a head contract meant reading the client's contract and typing every value into the platform yourself. After: Upload the client-provided contract when creating a new head contract and KAI reads it, populating the head contract values for you to review and confirm. Impact: Faster contract setup, fewer keying errors, and a head contract that matches the signed document from day one. See every variation's other side, client and subcontractor, in one column "As a commercial manager, I want to see which subcontractor variation sits behind each client variation, so I know where cost is approved but sell isn't, and where recovery is at risk." Before: Client-side and subcontractor-side variations lived in separate registers with no visible link between them. Spotting a cost with no matching sell meant cross-checking by hand. After: Variations (Client-Side) shows a Subcontract counterpart column: the linked subcontractor variation, its status, cost and margin, with a clear flag when cost is approved but sell isn't yet. Variations (Subcontractor-Side) shows a Head contract counterpart column: the linked client variation and what's been claimed, with states for absorbed by builder, no client variation linked, and recovery at risk. Filter chips with counts (for example "No cost side" and "Recovery pending") and a + Link action to connect variations manually, with suggested matches first. Impact: Margin leaks surface on the register itself. Every unrecovered cost is one click away. Register forwarded drawings straight from the Project Inbox "As a document controller, when a client forwards me drawings by email, I want to push those PDFs into the Document Register from the email itself." Before: For attachments on forwarded emails, the register action was greyed out. You had to leave the email, hunt for the file in Project Documents, and the register lost track of which email delivered it. After: The register action on a forwarded PDF opens Upload Revisions seeded with that file. Register it as new, file it as the next revision of an existing drawing, or file it in a folder. The email is recorded as the source with its received date, and no duplicate copy is left behind. Impact: One step from inbox to register, with a clean audit trail of where every revision came from. Reject a variation on a payment schedule when nothing has been certified "As a QS, I want to reject a claimed variation on a payment schedule when I'm certifying nothing for it, so my schedule reflects my actual position." Before: A variation with nothing certified couldn't be rejected on the payment schedule, and the Update Status dialog offered options that were then refused. After: You can reject the variation on the payment schedule, and the Update Status dialog only offers actions that will actually go through. Impact: Payment schedules that match your assessment, with no dead-end clicks. Improvements Review an invoice and its payment schedule side by side "As a contract administrator, I want to see the payment schedule while I make line decisions on the invoice." Before: Line decisions were made in the Invoice Register while the payment schedule they landed on was out of view. After: Compare with payment schedule opens a split view: the invoice and its PDF on one side, the payment schedule lines on the other. Rejecting, adjusting or certifying a line updates the schedule side live, and decided lines show as locked on both sides. Impact: You see the effect of every decision as you make it. Jump from an invoice to its generated claim and payment schedule Before: Finding the claim and payment schedule an invoice generated meant leaving the Invoice Register and searching. After: Open the generated claim and payment schedule straight from the invoice. Impact: Less clicking around, faster reviews. Quick filter chips on the Project Financial Summary (WIP) Before: The WIP page showed a count of loss-making projects, but finding them meant scanning a wide table for red figures. After: One-click filter chips with counts, such as Loss-making and Over or Under claimed, narrow the WIP table to the projects that need attention. Impact: Problem projects in one click, not a scroll. Browser tabs now show the page, project and module Before: Every Deep Space web app tab looked the same, so juggling several projects meant clicking through tabs to find the right one. After: The browser tab title shows the current page, project and module. Impact: Find the right tab at a glance. Tender names follow the project name by default Before: Tender names had to be set separately from the project name. After: A tender's name follows its project name by default, with a link toggle if you want to keep a custom name. Impact: Consistent naming without extra typing. Fixes Downloads keep their .pdf extension Some documents downloaded without a file extension, and renaming a document could drop it. Downloads now keep the real extension, renaming can no longer remove it, and affected documents have been repaired. Create Opportunity no longer loses your entry Clicking outside the Create Opportunity window closed it and lost what you'd typed. It now stays open. Scope of Works Library opens templates reliably Clicking a template row now opens it, and the Open button is no longer cut off on smaller laptop screens. Payment schedule Contract Sum matches the subcontract The payment schedule Contract Sum no longer includes pending variations. Saving in the Invoice Register no longer changes decided lines Saving changes no longer rewrites the claimed amount on a line already decided on the payment schedule. Cost code picker saves what you see With "Show all cost codes" ticked, the picker could save a selection that wasn't visible. Fixed. Monthly Project Report includes RFIs and Client Instructions The Correspondence section of the Monthly Project Report now picks up RFIs and Client Instructions. Emailed correspondence appears in the Project Inbox automatically Some emailed correspondence wasn't appearing in the Project Inbox until a manual refresh behind the scenes. It now flows in on its own. Got feedback on any of these? Tell us through the feedback portal in the platform.
