Attachments Now Travel to Xero

As a Contract Administrator or bookkeeper, you used to export a claim to Xero and find a bare bill on the other side. Now every document attached in Deep Space rides across with it. Before A CA attaches the subbie's invoice and a subby statement to a progress claim in Deep Space. The claim exports to Xero, the documents don't. The bookkeeper opens the bill, sees nothing, and either rejects the payment run or chases the paperwork by email. After On export, every document attached to the Deep Space record pushes to the corresponding Xero record through Xero's Attachments API. The bookkeeper opens the bill and sees exactly what the CA attached, no email chase required. Impact For builders whose bookkeeper verifies documents in Xero before releasing payment, this is the difference between Deep Space being usable for payments and not. The dual-attachment check (invoice plus subby statement) is a fraud control that happens entirely in Xero, and it now works the same way it did through HubDoc or Smoothlink. Attaching a file after export doesn't leave it behind either, it syncs across on the next run. Step 1. Turn it on per record type Go to Admin → Finance → Finance Integrations → Xero. Purchase Orders, Subcontract Claims, and Head Contract Claims each have their own sync toggle, and directly underneath it a separate "Upload linked files to Xero" toggle. Switch that on for whichever record types you want files pushed for. Leave it off and nothing changes for that record type. Finance Integrations settings, Xero tab: the "Upload linked files to Xero" toggle sitting under each of Purchase Orders, Subcontract Claims, and Head Contract Claims. Step 2. Export a purchase order Raise and approve a PO in Deep Space with a file attached (drawing, quote, spec). Export it to Xero as usual. The PO lands in Xero with that file already sitting in its Files panel, no separate upload needed on the Xero side. A Xero purchase order with the Deep Space file already sitting in its Files panel. Step 3. Export a subcontract claim Certify a subbie's progress claim with their invoice and statement attached, then export it to Xero as a bill. Both documents attach to the Xero bill automatically, and Xero's History & Notes logs the attachment as coming through the Xero API via Deep Space Integration, so there's an audit trail on both sides. A Xero bill with two files attached, plus the History & Notes entry confirming they came through the Xero API via Deep Space Integration. Step 4. Export a head contract claim Certify a head contract claim with supporting documents attached, then export it to Xero as a sales invoice. The same documents attach to that invoice, ready for the client-facing side of the transaction. A Xero sales invoice with the head contract claim's supporting documents attached the same way. A lot of what we ship starts with you. This one came straight from bookkeepers and CAs telling us that re-attaching invoices and statements to Xero by hand after every export was painful, and it is one of many updates this cycle that came directly from user feedback. Keep it coming: if something slows you down, tell us, and there is a good chance you will see it here. Deep Space · Construction runs better here · Published 12 July 2026
