What's new in Deep Space Horizon

Release notes · 15th May 2026 A lot has shipped over the last few weeks. Cost and sell now flow end to end through the commercial chain. The Budget Register shows true exposure, not just what's been signed. This release sharpens Deep Space Horizon as a commercial-control tool. Read on for what landed. Cost vs Sell on Head Contract Variations Variations now carry both a cost and a sell value on every scope item. Each line on an HC VO has costRate and sellRate side by side, with margin as its own calculated column. Cost code-aware margin defaults (PC items at 10%, trades at 15 to 20%, prelims at 5%) flow through at entry. Source linkage to subby SVOs is preserved bidirectionally, so when you import a subby variation into an HC VO you see both the sub cost (locked) and the sell-to-client (markup applied) on the same line. Worked example. Client approves an HC VO with cost intent $100k, margin $10k, sell $110k. The builder then procures the subby work for $75k. The Budget Register shows +$100k Approved HC VO Cost on the cost code, Committed shows $75k, and $25k of recouped headroom is visible the moment the subby quote enters the system as a draft PO. HC Register shows +$110k revenue with $10k margin reported separately. That $25k of headroom you earned by procuring smarter than you priced is now visible, in real time, on the line. HC SOV Setup, rebuilt SOV Setup now reads the cost/sell schema directly. Source modes let you shape the SOV from the BOQ, from the budget, or build it free-form. Margin is calculated from the underlying lines, not manually added as a separate row tied to a synthetic cost code. The same numbers feed claims, variations, and the Commercial Dashboard without translation layers in between. Setup is faster and matches how head contracts are actually written. Budget Adjustments Budget Adjustments are now the controlled, audited mechanism for moving budget. Every adjustment carries a reference, a date, a mandatory reason, and one or more line movements (from cost code, to cost code, amount, direction). It flows through Draft → Submitted → Approved → Locked. Original Budget stays immutable. Revised Budget updates on approval. The adjustment is permanent in the audit trail with the user, timestamp, and reason recorded against it. Budget lines on the register are read-only. To move money, you raise an adjustment. Finance and commercial teams get a clean answer to "why did the budget change?" every time. Cost Transfer: the sibling mechanism for actuals Cost Transfer applies the same governance pattern to actuals. From the Actuals drill-down on any cost code, an accounts user can select an actual line (full or partial), pick one or more destination cost codes, write a mandatory reason, and create a transfer. The system writes two linked entries: Transfer Out (negative) on the source, Transfer In (positive) on the destination. The original invoice, claim, or direct cost is never touched. Project-level actuals stay constant. Cost code allocations reflect reality. Every transfer is logged with user, timestamp, and reason. Voiding a transfer soft-deletes both linked entries with no hard delete. Restricted to Accounts and Finance roles. Now you can correct a miscoded invoice in seconds without breaking the audit trail or hacking the source record. Unactualised Commitments on the Budget Register A new Unactualised Commitments column sits between Committed and Remaining. It aggregates three sources per cost code: pending subcontract variations against an executed subcontract, draft Purchase Orders, and draft subcontracts. Drill into any cell to see the underlying records, by source type. Money about to be committed is now visible alongside what's already signed and what's been spent. ⚠️ Heads up: Remaining has been redefined This isn't just a new column. The Remaining column formula has changed. Before: Remaining = Revised − Actuals to Date. Tracked "unspent budget". Dropped as work was invoiced. After: Remaining = Revised − Committed − Unactualised Commitments. Tracks "available envelope". Drops as commitments are made or registered. To answer the old question ("how much have I not spent?"), read Actuals against Committed directly, or look at Committed − Actuals on the line. This is the change that surfaces the recouped-headroom signal from the cost-vs-sell work above. When a client variation lands at $100k cost intent and the subby PO drafts in at $75k, $25k of available envelope shows up in Remaining the moment the quote enters the system. Manual Direct Costs and Journal Entries Accounts teams can post manual direct costs and journal entries straight into the Budget Register, attached to the right cost code and project. Bank fees, manual journals, credit notes, direct expenses, all of it can now land on a project without needing a full accounting integration. Restricted to accounts team permissions. Total project cost reflects reality, not just what flowed through POs and subbie claims. Head Contract Register: Original, Variations, Revised The Value column on the Head Contract Register now splits into Original, Variations, and Revised, mirroring the Budget Register. Both sides of the commercial picture line up at a glance. What's next The cost/sell schema landing across HC variations is the start. Coming up: the same schema flowing through BOQ Builder and subcontractor pricing, the approval engine, timesheets, and the next wave of Commercial Dashboard rebuilds. Keep your eyes peeled.
