Quantity Takeoff → Estimation
Measured quantities flow into your cost estimate without re-entry, re-interpretation, or reconciliation Quantities get measured once. Then they get typed again. An estimator measures 850 m³ of ready-mix concrete in the takeoff. That number travels by spreadsheet, email, or memory into the Bill of Quantities, where someone types it into a different row, against a different cost code, and hopes the unit matches. If the quantity changes during design development, the update happens in the takeoff but not the BOQ or the BOQ but not the takeoff. By tender submission, there are two numbers and no clear answer on which one is current. Quantity Takeoffs and Estimation are now connected. Items measured in QTO flow directly into the BOQ. Quantities sync on demand. Changes propagate without re-entry. The estimate builds from measured data, not transcribed data. Takeoff items carry their full context into the estimate Each item in a Quantity Takeoff now holds everything the estimate needs: a measured quantity, a unit, a cost code, a unit rate, a location reference, a category, an assigned estimator, and notes describing the specification. That is not a stripped-down quantity - it is a fully described scope item ready to price. When takeoff packages are ready, move to Estimation → Sources and hit Sync Quantities Now. A modal lets you choose between Merge (update existing items, add new ones, preserve manual changes) or Replace (overwrite everything with takeoff data). You can sync all packages at once or select specific takeoffs. Synced items are tagged, traceable, and live-linked After sync, every takeoff-sourced item appears in the BOQ Builder with a Takeoff source badge. Open any item and you see the full chain: the QTO Item ID it originated from, the BOQ Name it belongs to, the trade category, and the quantity — marked with a link icon indicating it updates from the source. Use the Takeoff-Linked filter in the BOQ Builder to isolate synced items from manual entries. When quantities change in the takeoff, re-sync — Merge mode updates the linked items without overwriting any manual rate adjustments you have made in the estimate. Unit rates can be set directly in the takeoff and carried through to the BOQ, or built up from first principles using the Rate Builder in Estimation. Either approach works. The integration does not dictate your pricing method — it ensures the quantities underneath are measured, not guessed. Measure once. Estimate from the source. Push downstream. Quantity Takeoffs → Sync to Estimation → BOQ Builder → Markups & Adjustments → Push to Budget Register The full path from measurement to budget setup runs through five steps, all within Deep Space. Quantities are measured in QTO with full specification context. They sync into the BOQ where rates are applied or refined. Global markups — preliminaries, overheads, profit margin, contingency — are layered in the Markups & Adjustments tab with a live summary showing how each percentage impacts the total. When the estimate is finalised, Push to Budget Register sends the approved numbers to the Commercial module for budget setup and cost tracking. No spreadsheet leaves the system. No quantity is transcribed. The estimate total — $620,692 in this example — is built entirely from measured, linked, auditable data. When the design changes, the takeoff updates, the BOQ syncs, and the estimate reflects reality without anyone retyping a number. Preconstruction data that survives into delivery Quantity Takeoffs feed Estimation. Estimation feeds the Budget Register via Push to Budget Register. The Budget Register feeds Commercial — cost tracking, forecasting, variations, and payment claims. The numbers measured during preconstruction become the baseline the project is delivered against. That chain used to break at the first handover. Takeoff quantities lived in one spreadsheet, the estimate in another, and the budget was rebuilt from scratch when the project went live. Now the measured quantity in the takeoff is the same number in the BOQ, the same number in the budget, and the same number the commercial team tracks against. One source of truth, from first measurement to final account. © 2026 Deep Space Group · deepspacegroup.ai
